Autumn in Jersey is jam packed with exciting events and interesting affairs. We have summed up a few of our favourites below; in Jersey there’s something for every taste!

Jersey Festival of Words 2017
Wednesday, Sep 27 19:00 to Sunday, Oct 01 16:00

Jersey Festival of Words is a five-day literary festival, featuring visiting and local writers, poets and performers events, a schools programme, writing workshops, competitions and more. This year, we are delighted to be welcoming Professor Richard Dawkins, Dame Jenni Murray and Alexander McCall Smith. Also featuring will be acclaimed novelists John Boyne and Stef Penney plus Grazia agony aunt Daisy Buchanan, while young readers can looking forward to meeting Clare Balding and Lauren Child.

Autumn Fair at the Royal Jersey Showground
7th & 8th October 10:30 – 17:00

All the fun of the Countryside! Cattle Show, Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Show, Poultry Show, meet the birds, rabbits and snakes, lots of local stalls and delicious refreshments available. Entry £4 for adults, free for children.

La Fais’sie d’Cidre
7th & 8th October 2017 10:00 – 17:00

Bringing together communities, volunteers and of course apple and cider experts. It’s not all about the cider – live music, creative activities for children, dance, great food, great company, competitions, poetry, Genuine Jersey stalls and living history. Lots to do, things to learn, people to meet and fun to be had!

What's on

Black Butter Making at The Elms
19th – 21st October 2017 

Come along and get involved in the National Trust for Jersey’s annual Black Butter making event. It is a real community affair with all ages welcome and it is free!
Thurs 19 October
Peeling apples from 2 to 5 pm.

Fri 20 & Sat 21 October
Peeling will start again at 10am, stirring of the apples and other ingredients will commence mid-morning on Friday in the large ‘bachin’ over a roaring fire in the Bake-House at the Elms and will continue all night until Saturday lunch-time.

Sat 21 Oct
Market day 10am – 4pm

The Oyster Trail
Sunday, September 24, 2017 – 15:15 to 17:15
Sunday, October 8, 2017 – 14:30 to 16:30
Sunday, November 5, 2017 – 12:30 to 14:30

Join a local resident to walk among the oyster and mussel beds in the Royal Bay of Grouville, followed by the opportunity to sample fresh Jersey Oysters at Seymour Inn. Hear about the modern cultivation of shellfish in Jersey – the biggest oyster beds in the British Isles – and the fascinating history of the oyster fishery, which in the 19th century was a major industry. Expect to get your feet wet.
